One of the many reasons Morehead State University consistently ranks as one of the top regional public universities in the South is its commitment to student success. MSU’s newest hires in advising and retention will exemplify this dedication as they use their skills and experience to help students realize their full potential.
Hunter Chandler (17) is a two-time graduate from MSU, with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in 2017 and a Master of Arts in Adult and Higher Education in 2019. Chandler initially was hired by MSU as coordinator for the Success Academy and a part-time adjunct faculty member for mathematics. In his new role, he will serve as the coordinator for the University’s tutoring services. In this position, Chandler will manage the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC), which provides free tutoring services and academic assistance outside the classroom to all MSU students. He will also teach two sections of First Year Seminar (FYS), a course that helps first-year students successfully transition into college life.
“I am happy to lead a team of paraprofessional student staff that understand the importance of a successful student body,” Chandler said.

Jana Fife (05) graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from MSU and later earned a Master of Arts in Integrative Studies with an emphasis in Education from Northern Kentucky University in 2011. Fife was recently hired as a degree completion coach, where she will implement and plan success workshops for students, be a liaison for students and faculty, and conduct completions and follow-up. She is also an instructor of two sections of FYS.

Lauren Jordan (19) from Morehead graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in General Management from MSU and said she is excited to “be back home at dear ol’ MSU.” She was recently hired as a retention specialist and academic advisor with the Elmer R. Smith College of Business and Technology, where she will be working one-on-one with students to help them in choosing a degree path and successful completion of their college education. She will also teach one section of FYS while finishing up her Master of Business Administration at MSU.
“The primary focus of my job is student success, whether that be academically, socially or financially,” Jordan said. “I will figure out a way to get them there.”

Topaz Jordan (18) graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Middle School Education with a concentration in Mathematics and Social Studies in 2018 from MSU and is currently working toward a Master of Arts in Adult and Higher Education from the University. Jordan is also a degree completion coach and will plan to execute success workshops for all students and monitor students’ progress toward their respective degrees. She will also serve as an FYS instructor.
“Morehead State University has helped me grow into the person I am, and I look forward to helping other Eagles along their journeys,” Jordan said.
